The Smoky River Water Commission is about to commence a major construction project. The clarifier which is a vital part to the treatment process is being replaced as it has surpassed its life expectancy. This project will likely last until mid January.
All Potable Truck Fills on the Smoky River Regional Waterworks System will remain closed until mid to end of next week. The Water Commission is shutting the Water Plant down on December 3rd and it could be down until December 4th. We will still be able to distribute water but we have to ensure an adequate supply is in the clear wells as we will not be treating any Raw water for up to 2-days. During this 2-day shutdown we will be switching our treatment process from our current clarifier to a portable temporary clarifier. The transition and commissioning of the temporary clarifier could take up to two days. Again, this will not affect the ability to supply water, but we will have to ensure the clearwell at the Water Plant in Falher is full prior to shutting down for these 2-days.
When the temporary portable clarifier is online we should be able to restore levels in a timely manner and re-open truck fills.
This Clarifier replacement is a vital component to the treatment process and it must be replaced to ensure a continued safe potable water supply. The Smoky River Water Commission thanks you for your patience and understanding while we go through this necessary upgrade.
