The Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130 is responsible for the maintenance of all municipal roads.  A very important part of this responsibility is the protection of roadways during the spring thaw.  This time of year can create serious structural damage to roads if appropriate measures are not taken.  As a result, road ban orders and restrictions are necessary during the spring season.

Current Road Bans in Place:

The Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130 does not have a road ban in place at this time.

Who do these bans apply too?

These restrictions generally apply to heavy loads, and therefore are of greatest concern to truckers.  However, if you have any questions about transporting goods or products, or if you observe any activities which have the potential of damaging a roadway, please call the Road Foreman or Director of Operations at 780-837-2221.

How do I know which roads are banned?

All roads bans will be advertised.  Radio announcements and written notification are typically done.  Most roads are not posted but bans are likely still in effect.  There are a very limited number of exceptions to the bans.

Road Bans

The M.D. may enter into an agreement for a permit with individuals or organizations for the transportation of heavy loads during road ban conditions.  This agreement is applicable only during road ban season and security usually is required.  A greater focus on enforcement of bans has been initiated.

  • If you require a permit during road ban conditions, please call Roadata at 1-888-444-9288 or e-mail: permits@roadata.com

If you have any questions or concerns regarding road bans please call the Road Foreman

or the Director of Operations at 780-837-2221.

Hauling on Municipal Roads

Policy No. 808 was adopted to regulate commercial/industrial/contract hauling on M.D. roads.  A Road Use Agreement (Policy Form 8-G1 or Form 8-G2) must be entered into with the municipality prior to such activity.
