Although Y2K has come and gone with no major implications, it has made the M.D. much more prepared in the event of a disaster. A regional disaster would require the coordination of many different organizations such as F.C.S.S., the R.C.M.P., utility companies, municipal governments, etc. The M.D. Council Chambers will serve as the Emergency Operations Centre where all these groups can work together to deal with the crisis. We hope there will never be an opportunity to put the EOC into action but it’s good to know that if disaster does strike, the municipality will be prepared.
Fire Rates In an effort to recover costs of fire fighting services, the municipality has established Policy 113 that outlines user fees for the fire truck, tanker, fire chief vehicle and rescue unit. It is imperative that you review your insurance policy in regards to fire insurance, liability insurance and fire fighting insurance to ensure adequate coverage is in place. Review your policy don’t be stuck holding the bill!! A special initiative of the Municipal 2000 Sponsorship Program was announced in 2000. This initiative was designed to provide funds to municipalities to prepare a Fire Protection Master Plan to give direction to the Fire Department.
The Master Plan was completed by March 31, 2001. A copy of the plan will be housed at the Falher Fire Hall and another at the Municipal office. For more information, please contact Ian Fox, Regional Fire Chief. A reminder that fire permit season begins April 1st. If you require a permit, please contact one of the guardians prior to burning. If you are unsure of whether you need a permit, please contact the municipal office with the legal land description of where you wish to burn.
